OH NO! What do we get mom?
Well- we can't take her for dinner- we're in lockdown. So- what can we do to pamper our princess?
Mother’s Day is quickly approaching, and we think we might be celebrating in lockdown again this year- at least in the Greater Toronto Area. But even if you have things open where you live, we can always use some tips on how to wow mom, safely and at home! Our Moms deserve the absolute world, so we are here to help you plan an amazing covid-safe Mother’s Day whether you live with your mom or are apart this year.
If you Live with Mama:
1. Bring the Spa to Ma!
The spa is the perfect place for moms to relax and escape from their busy day-to-day lives. Bringing the spa to your mom is a perfect way to treat your mom and pamper her the way she deserves. Here are the steps to the perfect at home spa day:
-Set up and dedicate a calm, clean, clutter free and peaceful room for your mom's treatments. A nice touch would be to have a fireplace in the room.
-Create a schedule and give her treatments you are able to do (ie. manicure and pedicure, massage, facial, etc).
-Turn your living room into a “spa waiting room” and set-up calming music and set out lemon water and coffee or tea and light snacks like almonds, apple slices and biscotti to dip into her coffee or tea.
The picture above is of the spa room I set-up for my mom last year on our first lockdown Mother's Day together. I used our cot as a massage bed and set it up right beside our fireplace so she would be warm. Then I used different products I already had and gave her a relaxing facial.
2. An Afternoon Tea for Mommy and Me
The tradition of Afternoon Tea is known for its social charm and its slow food experience. Who doesn’t love wearing a beautiful hat or a beautiful dress, and enjoy little finger foods while drinking tea? If you have been to Ste. Anne’s Spa or The Old Mill or The Studio Paint Bar's Paint and High Tea Event, you will know what I am talking about. Here is how to do it!
-Create a menu out of your mom’s favourite food. Some places local to The Studio to get Afternoon Tea fixings are My Secret Kitchen, Wake and Bake by Simmy Jassal and Amazing Grace for Charcuterie Boxes. My family is big into crackers and cheese so we really enjoyed making our own cheese board and added sweets and treats down for a long afternoon of chatting away.
-Select a bunch of special teas and create a tea library to explore with your Mom
- Plan what you will wear! Get dressed up and enjoy some quality time together!
TIP: Incorporate an afternoon tea into your spa day to really make this Mother’s Day special!
3. Have a ‘Yes’ Day!
Moms are always putting their kids first, and although she says ‘no’ a lot to us throughout our lives, it is always for the best. If you think your mom needs to be put first for once then this activity is for you. ‘Yes’ Day is where the dad and kids have to say yes to whatever mom wants to do for the entire day. (This idea may have been inspired by the new film ‘Yes Day’ starring Jennifer Garner on Netflix).
Far Away from Mama?
